Vienna on Saturday was beautiful. The Spanish Riding School with the Lipazanner Horses was there at the Imperial Palaces. Too bad that by the time my friends and I got back to actually go in and see the school (after we passed it and circled the city at least 4 times on tours and wanderings), it was closed. grrrrrr. But everything was so beautiful. St. Steven's Cathedral was this incredible, gothic fortress that had this picture of Mary and Jesus where she supposedly cried in the......4th? century. Oh, and supposedly there is a statue of Jesus that has human hair growing on his beard~ but that has yet to be found. The Imperial Gardens were beautiful...roses everywhere you looked...acres and acres and fountains and everything.
What was so fun to do was just sit at this cafe along a main strip where there were no cars..it was a shopping district...and just people-watch. Waht's so different from America is that people are so quiet here. Honestly, there were tons of people around and musicians playing down the street a little and shops and cafes...and all you heard was murmuring. We would start talking at a cafe and get so loud..aand we're like....shhhhhh you can tell we're American! hahah. Also, everything was so clean. It was a beautiful city. We got a little lost at one point, but just ended up circling everything again. At the balcony of this one Palace....I think the Hapsburg....Hitler gave a speech, and decades later Pope John Paul II stood atop the same one and gave his speech. That almost gave you chills to think about.
hahah and another funny thing was all the guys dressed up in old Austrian Imperial garb handing out flyers for concerts and such. Yeah, I definitely think they had too much time on their hands. they had perfected the art of talking to and watching girls. hahaha. At least i got a picture of them and I in front of one of the palaces.
Well i must part now~~~~Salzburg is on the agenda for this weekend..the entire weekend.
